| COVERRX RE-OPENS ENROLLMENT | ||
| NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Today CoverRx, a statewide pharmacy assistance program, reopens
enrollment to the more than 3,500 applicants who are on the waiting list. New
applications also are being accepted.
Since the program originally opened for enrollment Jan. 1 of this year, it has been providing pharmacy coverage for more than 21,000 Tennesseans. The state temporarily suspended new enrollment in February in order to monitor the program’s budget in light of the high volume of applicants and heavy initial utilization. “We’re pleased to re-open CoverRx,” said Finance and Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz. “Our evaluation of the program gave us valuable insight into the utilization of the program. We feel confident that we can re-open enrollment to help more Tennesseans and still fulfill our role as good stewards of taxpayer dollars.” CoverRx is not health insurance, but is designed to assist individuals who have no pharmacy coverage and have a critical need for medication. The program offers affordable access to approximately 250 medications, mostly generic. CoverRx provides up to five prescriptions per month. (Insulin and diabetic supplies will not count against the monthly limit.) Express Scripts administers the program. In addition to CoverRx, Governor Phil Bredesen’s Cover Tennessee initiative offers health insurance options to uninsured individuals in Tennessee through three insurance programs with CoverTN as the centerpiece of the initiative. CoverTN is an affordable and portable health insurance initiative for uninsured small businesses. Comprehensive insurance for children is provided through CoverKids, and uninsurable adults are eligible for AccessTN, a high-risk pool. More information on all Cover Tennessee programs is available at www.CoverTN.gov or by calling 1-866-COVERTN. |
