COVERRX GETTING PRESCRIPTION DRUG BENEFITS TO
25,000 TENNESSEANS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — CoverRx, Governor Phil Bredesen’s statewide pharmacy assistance program, has reached 25,000 enrollees and continues to accept new applicants to the program.

"CoverRx really speaks to the emphasis we are placing on preventive health care in all of our Cover Tennessee programs,” Bredesen said. “When we focus on the treatment and prevention of illness through a low-cost approach like prescription medications, it helps us control health care costs in the Cover Tennessee program and in Tennessee as a whole. Furthermore, we’re helping Tennesseans access affordable medications to prevent and treat illnesses so they will have peace-of-mind about their health care.”

CoverRx is not health insurance, but is designed to assist individuals who have no pharmacy coverage and have a critical need for medication.

The program offers affordable access to approximately 250 medications, mostly generic. CoverRx provides up to five prescriptions per month. Insulin and diabetic supplies do not count against the monthly limit. Express Scripts administers the program.

Participants at or below 250 percent of federal poverty, about $51,000 annually for a family of four, will not pay monthly premiums to participate in CoverRx. Co-payments are required for prescriptions and range from $3 to $20 per medication.

There are approximately 1,400 pharmacies in the CoverRx network. All major chains are represented, as are hundreds of independent pharmacies across Tennessee. CoverRx also has a mail order program.

In addition to CoverRx, Bredesen’s Cover Tennessee initiative offers health insurance options to uninsured individuals in Tennessee through three insurance programs with CoverTN as the centerpiece of the initiative. CoverTN is an affordable and portable health insurance initiative for uninsured small businesses. CoverKids provides comprehensive health insurance for children. AccessTN, a high-risk pool, provides comprehensive health insurance options for uninsurable adults.

More information on all Cover Tennessee programs is available at www.CoverTN.gov or by calling 1-866-COVERTN.
