| COVERKIDS TO PROVIDE DENTAL AND VISION BENEFITS IN 2008 | ||
| NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Gov. Phil Bredesen announced today that CoverKids, Tennessee’s health insurance program for uninsured children, will begin providing enrollees with dental and vision benefits starting in 2008. "CoverKids is helping thousands of Tennessee’s children gain access to health care services where no options existed for them before,” Bredesen said. “Adding dental and vision coverage makes the program even more beneficial for the families that rely on it and should encourage more families to enroll.” The CoverKids’ vision benefit will begin on Jan. 1, 2008. The benefit will include services for annual vision exams, glaucoma testing, new lenses or contacts every 12 months, and replacement frames every two years. CoverKids expects to offer the dental benefit in the first quarter of 2008. When offered, the dental benefit will include preventive, diagnostic, and basic restorative services. Pregnant women will be eligible to receive the vision and dental benefits under CoverKids’ HealthyTNBabies program for the duration of their maternity coverage. CoverKids currently has 12,995 enrollees in the program. CoverKids allows qualifying children 18 and under to get free, comprehensive health insurance for preventive health care services such as vaccinations, doctors’ visits, prescriptions and hospital visits. A family of four with a $51,625 yearly income will qualify for CoverKids. Qualified, low-income children will have no monthly premiums for coverage and will pay only $15 for doctors’ visits and $5 for generic medications. Plus, they won’t have any co-pays for routine exams, labs or x-rays. In addition to CoverKids, Cover Tennessee offers health insurance to uninsured small businesses through CoverTN, and to uninsurable adults through AccessTN. CoverRx is a statewide pharmacy assistance program designed for those who have no pharmacy coverage but have a critical need for medication. More information on all Cover Tennessee programs is available at www.CoverTN.gov or by calling 1-866-COVERTN. |
